NSL shops for naming deal

Soccer Australia has signed a major naming rights sponsorship deal for the National Soccer League.

In a deal with Australian retailer Homeart, the league will be known as the NSL Homeart Championship Series.

Homeart has agreed to sponsor the production costs of television coverage of selected NSL Championship matches, in addition to providing the NSL Champions with a bonus 'winners cheque' of A$50,000 upon winning the 2002/03 NSL Grand Final.

In association with Soccer Australia and the Expo Channel, the Homeart sponsorship will allow for live televised NSL action each weekend on the Expo Channel via the Optus cable and satellite service
and regional Austar pay-TV.

Said Soccer Australia chairman Remo Nogarotto: "This sponsorship is important on two counts - it allows much needed television broadcasting of our product after a very difficult year in terms
of the electronic media.

"Secondly the sponsorship allows for the winner of the Grand Final to be presented with an additional bonus payment for winning the Grand Final on top of the prize pool that they are already entitled to.

"The beneficiaries of this particular deal are not just Soccer Australia, but more importantly the soccer watching public of Australia."
