More Miles for ATP CEO

Mark Miles has received a major vote of confidence after board of the ATP unanimously backed the decision to extend his contract.

Miles' contract will now run through up to and including 2005.

Said ATP tournament board representative Graham Pearce: "This is a challenging time for tennis that demands a leader to work with the other governing bodies to take the sport to new levels of global popularity. We're confident that Mark Miles is the ideal CEO for the ATP as we play a key role in achieving that objective."

Added ATP player board representative Tomas Carbonell: "Our players and tournaments are committed to building on the popularity of professional tennis. Mark will be at the forefront in shaping our
objectives and seeking consensus among all of the stakeholders in the
professional game."

The ATP board is comprised of three tournament representatives, three
player representatives and the CEO. The six board members select and hire the CEO.

Current board members are tournament representatives Patrice Dominguez (Europe), Charlie Pasarell (Americas) and Graham Pearce (international) along with player representatives Ricardo Acioly (Americas), Tomas Carbonell (Europe), and Gary Muller (international).

Said Miles: "I'm very pleased that the entire board has expressed their confidence in my leadership. I'm particularly excited about immediately entering into constructive dialogue with the Grand Slams, ITF and WTA Tour to identify how we should collectively contribute to the continued growth of the professional game and overall well-being of its players and tournaments."

Miles, 49, has directed the ATP as its CEO since 1990.
