EBU on the rights track

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has signed a significant rights renewal deal with the European Athletic Association (EAA) for a number of key upcoming athletics events.

The EBU has secured the rights to broadcast the 2006 European Championships, the 2005 and 2007 Indoor Championships, the annual SPAR European Cup, the Cross Country Championships as well as the newly introduced European Indoor Cup.
Comments EBU president Arne Wessberg: "Our agreement ensures that major athletics events will be transmitted free-to-air throughout Europe. This is good news for TV viewers, and it marks a continuation of the excellent relationship between Europe's public service broadcasters and the European Athletic Association."
The contractual agreement governs the relationship between the EBU and the EAA until the end of 2007 - a relationship that stems back to 1969.

The Geneva-based EBU unites and serves 71 national broadcasters from 52 countries in and around Europe.
