Sportel hit by health scare

The dates for SportelAsia have been pushed back amid fears over a health scare in the Far East.

The inaugural Asian event - replacing this year's SportelAmerica - was due to be staged at the InterContinental Hotel in Hong Kong between April 8-10.

However, organisers - taking on board advice from the World Health Organisation and the US Centers for Disease Control - have decided to delay the event and rearranged it.

The event now takes place between April 30 and May 2.
Hong Kong has been the hardest hit from the pneumonia virus - Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
Suspected cases have been reported in a total of 10 countries, including the US, Canada and Spain, but the main areas to be hit are Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore.
Said David Tomatis, executive vice president of Sportel: "In view of the potential health risks from the ongoing infectious outbreak,
despite the progress that seems to have been made, we feel it would be prudent to take the exceptional step of moving the dates of SportelAsia.

"We have not taken this decision lightly and we are sure you will appreciate that we are acting solely out of concern for everyone's health and welfare."

All delegates and exhibitors are being contacted by the Sportel office in Monaco.
