Upshaw has held his current position since 1983 having previously served the union in a number of capacities, including president, during a Hall-of-Fame playing career as a guard with the Oakland Raiders.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included player safety and health and the improving of field conditions for all NFL stadiums, training camps and practice facilities.
Following a four day meeting of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) in Hawaii, Gene Upshaw was re-elected to a seventh consecutive term as executive director of the body.
