Athens 2004 ticket boost

Organisers of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 have reported an 'impressive response' from contractual partners to the ticketing programme.

As of this week, 730,000 tickets have been reserved with a total value of approximately EUR50m, an amount which comes to about 27.3 percent of the anticipated total from the ticketing programme.

The total amount the organising committee expects to earn from the sale of tickets comes to EUR183m, which comprises about 9.3 percent of its revenues.

To fulfil the obligations arising from the contract for the hosting of the Games, Athens 2004 has already commenced the sale of Olympic Games tickets to its contractual partners, namely the national Olympic committees, international federations, sponsors, and broadcasting rights holders.

The total number of tickets comes to 5.3m, of which 3m have been reserved for the public while the remaining 2.3m are distributed to the contractual partners.

The ticket demand from contractual partners has so far exceeded organisers' expectations and, in some cases as in that of the national Olympic committees, exceeds the ratio anticipated for the satisfaction of their requirements. For certain sports, such as swimming, demand exceeds the total capacity of the competition venue.
Ticket sales to the public begins on May 12.
