After months of negotiations and disappointments, the franchise is set to finally be taken over by billionaire Thomas Golisano in a deal worth an estimated $50m.
Golisano was first linked with a possible bid for the franchise in October last year but it was businessman Mark Hamister who looked destined to take control until he was forced to shelve his plans due to lack of financing.
A press conference is expected later today at the HSBC Arena.
The NHL has been over-seeing the operation of the team since former owner John Rigas was indicted on fraud charges following the collapse of Adelphia Communications.
The long-awaited sale of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres is set to be confirmed today.
