Ecclestone denies British GP talk

Bernie Ecclestone has gone on record to deny he is looking to snap up the Formula One assets of the financially-troubled Octagon Motorsports.

The Formula One chief has constantly been linked with a possibly buy-up of some or all of the unit's properties after finance figures released by parent company the Interpublic Group (IPG) revealed it has lost more than $58.4m last year alone and was having a negative impact on its share price.
Last week, IPG confirmed it was examining 'exit strategies' to off-load its motorsport assets.
Earlier in the year, rumours suggested Ecclestone was close to a $1 deal to take the unit - a separately run and managed unit of marketing giant Octagon - and its debts.
However, speaking to the BBC, Ecclestone denied he had any plans to buy the rights to stage the British Grand Prix, controlled by the unit, which owns race venue Silverstone.
Said the F1 chief: "I have never wanted to get control of any [F1] races. I don't care who is in control."

The staging of sporting events is just one of the topics to be discussed at SportAccord, the leading industry conference taking place in Madrid between May 12-16.
