Martin cited his willingness to spend more time with his family and a desire to pursue other business interests as the reasons for his resignation.
He said: "I would like to thank the Management and Staff at the Sunshine Tour for their support and dedication. To all the Members of the Sunshine Tour, it has been a great challenge and pleasure serving you. Above all I sincerely wish professional golf in Southern Africa the very best for the future and hope that I will not be lost to golf in this wonderful part of the world."
Commenting on Martin's resignation, Sunshine Tour chairman Johann Rupert stated: "Four years ago it took me a lot of time to persuade Louis to take up the position of chief executive. At the time he indicated that he would only be prepared to do it for a set period of time. I respect his wishes and would like to thank him for the invaluable contribution that he made to The Sunshine Tour over the four years.
"Louis has graciously agreed to stay on until the appointment of his successor. During Louis's term in office, Southern African golf went from strength to strength. We currently have five players in the top fifty in the world, three of whom are in the top twelve. There are more Southern African players on the various Tours of the world than ever before."
