CCTV signed a seven-year Formula One broadcasting contract covering the 2004 Shanghai Formula 1, China's first such event.
According to the contract, CCTV will broadcast all the F1 events live from the 2003 to 2010 seasons.
CCTV had previously broadcast Formula One nine years ago, but had to give this up after disappointing ratings from Chinese audiences.
However, Shanghai's successful acquisition of a seven-year contract (starting in 2004) with Federation Internationale de L'Automobile (FIA) to host a Formula One Grand Prix, is bringing a renewed enthusiasm for F1 amongst Chinese motor sports fans.
Free-to-air Chinese broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) has signed a multi-year rights deal for coverage of Formula One including the inaugural Grand Prix in the country in 2004.
