Glazer is reported to have paid $14m for the 2.9 percent stake in the soccer club – traditionally the sport’s richest club.
He follows in the footsteps of an investment firm spearheaded by John de Mol – the chairman of Dutch TV production firm Endemol, most famous for its Big Brother show – who snapped up a 2.5 percent stake in United last week.
Recent speculation over the sale of shares in the club had led to the stock market price rising.
