GPWC seek 'new Bernie'

The GPWC – the group of Formula One manufacturers threatening to start their own rival series – says it is seeking a Bernie Ecclestone-style industry figure to spearhead its campaign for a better slice of the action.

Speaking to the French press, Renault’s sports director Patrick Faure said the group has already initiated a process to find the person to help them secure more power in motorsports’ premier championship.

Said Faure: "We has asked a head hunter to find us someone like Bernie. He would be on an international scale, know sport well, be skilful in terms of marketing and of TV rights, but above all he would be a real boss.”

Faure said the figure must be from outside the Formula One world – ruling out Ferrari’s charismatic leader Luca Di Montezemolo.
