The broadcast network, which is the flagship operation of the European media giant RTL Group, will continue to show exclusive free-to-air coverage of the Formula One Grand Prix series until the end of the 2007 season.
The contract will see RTL broadcast live coverage of all the elements of the F1 Grand Prixs including warm-up sessions, qualifying and the races themselves.
Financial details of the new deal, which begins at the start of the 2004 season, have not been disclosed but the agreement will provide a much-needed boost to F1 in what is a major regional market for the sport.
Concern over declining viewing figures for F1 has led to some structural changes to the sport but the presence of homegrown star and world champion Michael Schumacher continues to ensure that the sport is a valuable rights commodity in Germany.
German free-to-air broadcaster RTL has renewed its coverage of Formula One motor racing in a new four-year TV rights deal.
