Bird, who had been widely credited with much of the club's off-field successes following it's relegation from the top flight two seasons ago, was reported to be unhappy at his new role at the club after he was transferred to his existing post having previously served as chief operating officer.
Bird's resignation, due to an 'internal dispute', will do nothing to ease the burden on City chairman David Bernstein who is being pressurised to release funds for future transfer activity.
