Euroleague figures rise

Premier European basketball league the Euroleague has reported another surge in attendance figures, with total numbers up more than ten percent on the previous season.

During the 2002/03 season, an average of 4.514 fans attended Euroleague games, 10.13 percent over the 2001/02 season and 38.38 percent from the starting season in 2000/01.

In total 758.381 fans attended Euroleague games during the 2002-03 regular season.

Although the attendance of the three teams based in Athens decreased an average of 50 percent, these teams were forced to move to 85 percent smaller arenas than the year prior due to renovations for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

Says Marshall Glickman, of Euroleague's marketing department: “If not for these relocations, attendance would undoubtedly be even greater. With the recent restructuring of our marketing area, we will be putting much greater emphasis on ticket sales, which we expect will result in continued attendance growth.”
