Motorsport unit's $12m boost

Financially-troubled Octagon Motorsports has come out fighting, vowing to spend £7.5m ($12.10m/EUR11.26m) on its UK race circuits.

But the shadow of a takeover remains with management today refusing to comment on continued takeover speculation which has dogged the troubled self-contained division of marketing giant Octagon.

Yet the investment in its circuits - most notably Silverstone, home of the Formula One Grand Prix, and Brands Hatch, which this year hosts one of two European CART races - is seen as a step in the right direction for a company which, insiders say, could be sold 'within weeks or months'.

The money pledged will go toward upgrading facilities and access to both tracks as well as its other tracks; Oulton Park, Snetterton and Cadwell Park.
