Wireless deal for Bulls, Blackhawks

Wireless communication firm Verizon Wireless has entered into an exclusive, long-term, multi-million dollar major sponsorship agreement with the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks, NBA's Chicago Bulls and the United Center.

The sponsorship covers a three-year period: through the 2004-05 NHL season and the 2004-05 NBA season. Major provisions for Verizon Wireless include prominent signage through the venue, marketing promotions, and branding on web and team advertising.

Said Steve Schanwald, executive vice president, business operations for the Bulls: "We are excited to partner with Verizon Wireless in an effort to build both of our recognisable brands in the Chicago area.

"Through our partnership, we hope to grow more Bulls fans, Verizon Wireless customers and have a positive impact on our Chicagoland community."
Sponsorship and the dawning of a new era of wireless delivery of sports are among the topics to be discussed at SportAccord, the leading industry conference taking place in Madrid between May 12-16.
