Virginia targeting MLB franchise

The Virginia Baseball Stadium Authority has selected White & Baldacci to be its marketing agency as it prepares for a series of meetings and presentations with Major League Baseball's Relocation Committee.

The first meeting with potential host jurisdictions will be held in New York City on January 28 & 29.
Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced the formation of the relocation committee last December and charged it with finding a new home for the Montreal Expos following the 2003 baseball season.
"We are thrilled to have White & Baldacci working with us at this critical point in the process," said Gabe Paul, Jr., executive director of the Virginia Baseball Stadium Authority.
"They have demonstrated sophisticated thinking and a highly creative approach. White & Baldacci understands what we need to communicate to baseball's relocation committee. Steve Baldacci's knowledge of the professional sports world, including marketing and stadium economics in the greater Washington region, is invaluable to us and was a distinct advantage for White & Baldacci in this agency selection process."
Paul added that the Authority hired White & Baldacci to "communicate the advantages of Virginia's proposal using advertising, direct marketing, public relations and in-person presentations."
The agency is lead by Matt White, Chairman of White & Baldacci and Steve Baldacci, formerly president and chief marketing officer of the Washington Redskins who joined the agency late last year.
According to a study by George Mason University released earlier this week, a Major League Baseball franchise and stadium would generate $11.5billion in economic impact in Virginia over the next three decades. The annual economic impact of $266million in the Commonwealth of Virginia would create $21m in annual state tax revenue in Virginia.
White & Baldacci, having won a competitive review among six other agencies will be charged with developing the fully integrated marketing programs designed to showcase the region's strength.
