The league has revealed that it is to launch a reality TV programme later this year entitled, 'Who Wants to Be an NBA/WNBA Player?'.
The series, produced in association with Universal Television Group-owned production company Reveille, will follow the lives of athletes from around the world vying for a chance to play on an NBA or Women's NBA team.
The chosen finalists will go through a number of tests ranging from strength and conditioning to skills, two-on-two and three-on-three games. One male and one female winner will be chosen to try out with an NBA team and a WNBA team, respectively.
No carriage deal for the series has been signed as yet although the NBA and Reveille are currently shopping the project to various broadcast and cable networks, but would not reveal specifics of their negotiations.
The relationship between sport and the broadcast market is just one of the topics to be discussed at the industry's top conference to be staged in Madrid next year.
SportAccord takes place between May 12-16, 2003, with a full day of the conference devoted to the topic of 'Sport and Broadcast'.
