Calpers has issued a statement saying that it has no plans to bid for Chelsea Village, the controller of the UK Premier League soccer club.
Newspaper reports had claimed that Calpers was considering a £50million ($80m) takeover offer.
"Calpers is not making a bid for this company,'' spokesman Brad Pacheco said. "I have also confirmed that no manager working on our behalf is doing this."
The California Public Employees' Retirement System has denied media reports at the weekend that it is interested in buying Chelsea Village.
