India change ICC contracts

Cricket's world governing body the ICC says it has received signed player contracts from the Board of Control for Cricket in India - but that the terms have been altered.

The ICC Cricket World Cup Contracts Committee will meet later this week to discuss whether the altered contracts will be accepted.

The sport's world governing body had outlined within the World Cup contracts that the players must forego any individual commercial endorsement deals they have that conflict with the World Cup's official sponsors for 30 days before and after the tournament as well as the duration of the event itself.

Last month, local press reports in India suggested players had agreed to put aside their own sponsors whilst the tournament is being played, but have refused to do so for the 30 day periods either side of the World Cup.

Furthermore, said the reports, the Indian players will allow the tournament's sponsors to use their images for a period of just two months after the World Cup as opposed to the six months outlined by the ICC.

Pepsi, LG Electronics, Hero Honda and South African Airways are the four headline sponsors of the World Cup which takes place in South Africa over February and March.
