The decision was taken by the pay-TV channel's owner, US firm TRNi, after a rights deal to secure coverage of Irish horse racing fell through.
Coverage Irish horse racing has now been taken up by the attheraces media consortium which holds the rights to 49 of the 59 racecourses in the UK and has recently set up its own TV channel.
TRNi will now be going into partnership with attheraces to bring American horse racing to the consortium's channel from February 1.
Commented Bill Hogwood, president of TRNi: "We started discussing proposals with Horse Racing Ireland in the middle of last year, but they elected to ask for a guaranteed payment from interactive betting revenue, and that’s just not possible.
"We provided the evening segment with our American racing, but when the channel lost a large slice of British racing, Ireland became an important part of the 12-hour racing programme. Once the Irish couldn’t come to a sensible decision, that was the death knell of the Racing Channel.
"Attheraces approached us and we’re setting up a joint venture, in which we will handle the signals and transmission, while Attheraces does the production. We will also provide the gateway to co-mingle bets into the pools in America."
UK horse racing broadcaster The Racing Channel is to shut down at the end of the month it has been confirmed.
