CART set for new image

CART is set to unveil a new corporate look next week as it mirrors the recent decision by its rival the IRL to rebrand.

Earlier this week the IRL reclaimed the right to use the IndyCar name from CART and rebranded its key series.

The name had been under CART control since the IRL split but relinquished its rights at the end of 2002.

The IRL name has historically referred to the name of both the sanctioning body and the series and now will serve solely as the name of the sanctioning body, which is based on the successful model of other leagues with multiple series.

Now CART has confirmed January 15 will see it unveil 'new colours and a new logo'.

The financially-troubled US open-wheel motorsport is preparing for a key season ahead upon which much of its future hangs. With a number of leading teams and drivers quitting, plus the departure of its title sponsor, FedEx, some have speculated the new season may even be its last.
