Wild card games deliver big hits

Tagged in

The NFL wild-card games are proving big hits for the TV networks, as both Fox and CBS joined ABC in recording big ratings wins.

The thrilling comeback in the 49ers win over the New York Giants helped Fox to a 21.6 overnight rating on Sunday, the largest TV audience for a first-round playoff in four years.
Meanwhile CBS recorded a 20.2 overnight rating for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ win over the Cleveland Browns.
Each overnight rating point represents about 735,000 TV homes.
Yesterday we reported how ABC had scored a 15.1 overnight rating for the game between Indianapolis and the New York Jets, won by the latter, followed by an 18.4 rating for the evening game in which Atlanta beat Green Bay.
