Cubs take rooftop action

Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs have filed a lawsuit against the owners of a number of rooftop bars that overlook its Wrigley Field home, claiming they are unfairly profiting from the team.

Nine defendants have been named in the lawsuit filed in the US District Court in Chicago, with the club claiming those selling tickets to watch Cubs games are violating copyright laws and damaging official ticket sales.
Said Cubs president and CEO Andy MacPhail: "They do nothing to contribute to our efforts to put a winning team on the field. The free ride is over."
A legal representative for the owners said the nine defendants were disappointed at the legal action as it threatens efforts to 'solve the issue privately'.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages, some of the defendant's profits and a ban on the owners selling or marketing the Cubs without the team's permission.
