Pepsi, which already has an individual sponsorship deal with England captain David Beckham, is looking to increase its marketing activity in football as it bids to compete with Coca-Cola which has a significant presence in the sport.
The FA is reported to be in talks with Pepsi with regard to its fifth and final vacancy in its major sponsorship line-up with the soft drinks brand potentially joining McDonalds, Umbro, Nationwide and Carlsberg on the governing body's portfolio.
Should Pepsi agree a deal, it would grant it the ability to market Beckham wearing an England shirt - something which is unavailable through the current individual contract with the captain.
Coca-Cola, which already sponsors the European Championships, World Cup and is a broadcast sponsor of the highlights programme for the English Premier League on terrestrial network ITV, is believed not to be in the running for the FA's final sponsorship package.
Soft drinks giant Pepsi is believed to be in sponsorship talks with the English Football Association - a deal that would heighten the brand's rivalry with Coca-Cola.
