The financial brand signed on to replace previous backers, LloydsTSB, in a new three year deal for a reported fee of around £23million.
The tournament's organisers had found it difficult to replace LloydsTSB which had sponsored the championship for the previous five years with the Six Nations organising committee citing the difficult economic climate as the primary reason for the delays.
However, the organisers of the tournament, which begins on February 15, will be relieved to have finally signed off a deal with the start of the championship so close.
With LloydsTSB no longer on board, the organisers have also unveiled a new tournament logo (pictured) for the start of the 2003 championship.
The Royal Bank of Scotland has been confirmed as the new title sponsor for rugby union's Six Nations Championship.
