Lewis confirmed the rematch could take place after announcing he would defend his WBC title against Vitali Klitschko on March 8.
The first Tyson versus Lewis bout took a record $103m (EUR104.59m) from subscribers in the US, but did not attract the biggest pay-per-view audience of all time. It racked up 1.8m sales - still someway behind the 1.9m who paid to watch the Tyson versus Evander Holyfield rematch in 1997.
Should Lewis decide to continue to fight after the March bout, preliminary deals are in place for fights with both Tyson and Klitschko’s brother Wladimir.
Despite the one-sided result of the first Tyson v Lewis match, both fighters' networks, HBO and Showtime worked well together to generate a bumper pay-packet for all involved and will be keen to give the pay-per-view platform a further boost.
