NSL agrees to major facelift

Australia's National Soccer League (NSL) is facing a major revamp after its governing body agreed to restructure in the face of mounting difficulties.

Following a two-day meeting in Sydney this week, the NSL Commission established a working committee to set up guidelines for the future prosperity of the property going forward.
The restructuring of the league is expected to be implemented in the time for the start of the 2003/2004 season.
Said NSL Commission Chairman Remo Nogarotto: "The NSL clubs have not debated the need for change, they all agree that the NSL is at a critical junction in it’s successful history and have unanimously agreed on a set of principles that will offer the NSL a major revamp from 2003/2004 onwards.
"The establishment of the working committee will seek to engage all parties in determining the best NSL model for change going forward, including our intention to seek open and direct communication with the PFA in reviewing their research on any proposed new competition."
The league has struggled in recent times with many clubs operating under heavy debt and negotiations over broadcast rights for the property stalling following the demise of its previous TV partner, pay-TV network C7.
