Crozier quits English FA

Adam Crozier, chief executive of the English Football Association has resigned as the battle between the FA and chairman of the Premier League clubs claimed its first high profile victim.

Crozier has enraged League chairmen by signing off on a number of key commercial deals for the FA without their consultation. The chairmen are angry over what they see as a commercial clash between the use of England players.

They want financial recompense for the use of their highly-paid stars when on England duty and restrictions on their use for commercial promotional activities for the FA. They are also fuming that the new sponsor deals could impinge on existing commercial deals signed by the clubs.

The chairmen want to set up a Professional Game Board which would take over the copmmercial running of the English game, leaving the FA to represent non-professional administrative matters and the national side. The FA's Crozier would not have been involved in the running of the new board.

Crozier had denied earlier today that he would resign.
