Globecast renews NHL contract

Globecast has renewed its satellite distribution deal with the National Hockey League (NHL).

The agreement, which is for the 2002-2003 season, will see Globecast manage the satellite distribution of NHL games to all European rights holders as well as delivering the programming to broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region for select games.
A subsidiary of France Telecom, Globecast will provide NHL International with complete satellite uplink, space capacity and a new encryption system to deliver the coverage to European and Asian rights holders.
Among the broadcasters that will receive the Globecast signal include Canal+ in France, Spain and the Nordic countries, Channel 5 in the UK, and JSky Sports in Japan.
The deal represents the sixth consecutive year that Globecast has supported NHL International's European distribution.
