World Series ratings still down

The television ratings for Major League Baseball's World Series are continuing to disappoint.

Host broadcaster Fox attracted an average audience of 17.04 million for its coverage of the third game in the best-of-seven series between the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants.
This figure represented a 27 percent drop-off from the third game in last year's World Series and was also the least-watched primetime Game 3 in World Series history.
Off the back of similarly poor audiences for the first two games, Fox's coverage is averaging ratings 22 percent down on 2001 over the first three games with a Nielsen Media score of 10.8.
According to reports, Fox had guaranteed some advertisers a rating of 16.0 for this year's World Series.
The series has suffered due to the fact that both teams herald from California which has left little interest in the games for all the other TV markets in the US.
Fox's blushes may be spared however should the series run the full distance - a fact that is looking increasingly likely after the Giants levelled things up at 2-2 following last night's fourth game for which ratings are not yet available.
