Blatter: 'I will quit in 2006'

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has confirmed to sportbusiness.com he will step down in 2006 and not fight another election for soccer's top job.

In an exclusive interview, Blatter also confirmed FIFA Marketing could sell the TV rights to the 2010 and 2014 World Cups internally - news that will come as a huge blow to the big names looking to capture the lucrative rights currently held by KirchSport.

Speaking from FIFA house in Switzerland, the president, who overwhelmingly won a second mandate in May this year, said he will step aside to let a new figure lead the game's governing body forward.

Said Blatter: "I have said I am in the second half of the football game.

"From the very beginning I said my presidency will not be more than two mandates. I am now in the second mandate and at the end of it I will be 70 years old. I think it will be the correct time then to leave the organisation."
