ESPN signs Cox content deal

US cable offering ESPN has reached a programming agreement with regional sports network Cox Sports Television.

Cox Sports, which is due to launch on October 28 across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, has struck a deal with ESPN which will give it access to 125 college sports events and news programming from the latter's content portfolio.
The deal, which significantly boosts the Cox Sports proposition, includes college football, baseball and basketball coverage the rights to which are under ESPN's distribution arm, ESPN Regional Television.
Outside of the ESPN tie-up, Cox Sports will also broadcast 65 NBA games involving the New Orleans Hornets.
ESPN Regional Television has a number of distribution deals with local networks for its college sports programming.
