It had been feared industry action by firemen would result in sporting events behind postponed amid safety fears.
But with strike action seemingly inevitable between now and the end of the year, organisers of some of the biggest events say safety requirements will be met.
With a number of strikes likely to coincide with English Premier League soccer and England’s rugby union ties against New Zealand and South Africa, sport chiefs have said adequate security would be in place to deal with any situation.
Said John Beattie, stadium manager at Premier League champions Arsenal: "It does not appear on the face of it that games will have to be cancelled.
"We have 300 stewards at games and can assess a problem within two minutes. If we get to a stage where we need to call the fire brigade out we will simply evacuate earlier than we normally would.
"We are having discussions with the council and as they are the ones who issue our certificate, they could revoke it or allow the game to go ahead with zero attendance but we don't expect it to be that bad.
"The Football Association are not going to call games off across the board and at a meeting of the Football Safety Officers Association recently it was generally felt there would not be major problems."
Sporting events in the UK are not expected to be cancelled if firefighters carry out their threat to strike in a pay dispute row.
