Berne to scrap 2010 bid?

Tagged in &

Berne may be forced to withdraw its application to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games following news that the bid has failed to raise $15million (EUR15.2m) of essential funds.

Berne is currently expected to bid for 2010 along with favourites Vancouver and Salzburg. The fourth candidate is Pyeongchang in South Korea.

More than three-quarters of voters in the state of Berne rejected the city's financial demands for its 2010 bid.

The Green Party reportedly led the campaign against the Olympic bid.

The four 2010 candidates have to pay the International Olympic Committee $500,000 (EUR508,000) by October 10 to proceed with their bids.
