Mickelson in Ford deal

Tagged in

Car making giant Ford has signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with US golfer Phil Mickelson for a reported $1million (EUR1m) a year.

Ford president Steve Lyons said the company would start to use Mickelson on its print advertising and may feature him in future television commercials. He also said Ford was considering becoming a title sponsor for a US PGA Tour.

But Lyons denied that Ford was sponsoring Mickelson to compete with General Motors' Buick Division's endorsement of Tiger Woods.

"When we looked at this relationship we didn't try to model anybody," Lyons told reporters. "Buick isn't our major competitor but I wish them well."
