NSL to go it alone?

Australia's National Soccer League (NSL) is reportedly on the verge of severing its ties with Soccer Australia just one week before it starts its new season without a major sponsor and under threat of no TV coverage.

There was overwhelming support from NSL clubs to run their soccer competition themselves without the interference of cash-strapped Soccer Australia, which has been suffering financially ever since its national team failed to qualify for the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Television rights for the new season have yet to be resolved and Soccer Australia is still in talks with the Seven Network which wants to relinquish its rights to televise the NSL.
