Chess set for showdown

Tagged in

Chess is set to be flung into the limelight once again after the dates were confirmed for the match between world champion Vladimir Kramnik and Deep Fitz - the world's most powerful chess computer.

The match was due to take place last year, but was cancelled following the September 11 terrorist attacks on the US.

The match will now take place in Manama in Bahrain from October 2-21.

It hopes to emulate the success of Garry Kasparov versus Deep Blue in 1997, when the human was beaten by the machine.

The event is being organised by the Einstein Group.
