“I would encourage anybody involved in the business of sport, no matter how big, no matter how small, to enter one of the categories. There is something for everybody,” says leading sports broadcaster and chairman of the judging panel, John Inverdale.
The categories for the awards span all disciplines in the industry of sport, including advertising, sponsorship, publishing, merchandising and new media. Two new categories, Best Sport in the Community Programme and the now consolidated Best Newspaper Sport Coverage Award, have been introduced for this year.
Commenting on last year’s inaugural Sport Industry Awards ceremony,
Richard Caborn, the UK’s sports minister, said: “The event was a huge success giving the perfect platform to both recognise and reward commercial excellence in sport. It was extremely well organised and I look forward to the Sport Industry Awards now becoming a regular fixture in the sports awards calendar.”
The 2003 event is once again being organised by Benchmark Sport and the launch includes a new website www.sportawards.co.uk and a mail out of 1,000 CD ROMs to the good and great in the UK sport industry.
“This year's event will bring top brands, agencies and media into direct competition for the coveted awards. More importantly, the awards promote inclusion in what is often seen as a fragmented and disparate industry,” said Nick Keller, managing director of Benchmark Sport.
