Sportingbet quits Alderney

Online sports gambling company Sportingbet has relocated its business from Alderney after the island clamped down on countries taking illegal bets from US citizens.

A few months ago the company began taking all of its European bets from the UK and is now considering moving its offshore business to Gibraltar.

Sportingbet has been embroiled with the American authorities after it was found that punters were using the site in states where gambling is banned.

Shares in Sportingbet, one of a handful of profitable internet ventures, have fallen by over 40 percent in the last three months.
