Australia to compete in ICC Trophy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that Australia will participate in the ICC Champions Trophy on September 12 in Sri Lanka despite the the sponsorship row facing cricket's governing body.

An agreement with the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) and the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) was warmly welcomed by the ICC today.

"The ACB and the ACA Agreement is a sensible and pragmatic solution," said the ICC's president Malcolm Gray. "It protects the ICC's commercial partners by accepting the proposed terms of the contract, including the critical ambush marketing protections, while also ensuring that players' concerns over the use of the images are addressed through the agreed guidelines and processes that will be adopted.

"This deal follows agreements in Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan and Zimbabwe and it is now up to the other boards and their players to find a solution to their own issues."

But the ICC Champions Trophy is still in doubt with England and India threatening to boycott the 12-team event unless the ICC changes its sponsorship contracts.

The main objection for players is that the ICC contract would directly affect players' individual sponsorships.
