Woods named top endorser

Golfer Tiger Woods has been named the biggest and most-influential celebrity endorser, according to a leading black US business magazine.

Sports stars dominate the list compiled by Black Enterprise magazine, with Woods top of the pile courtesy of his estimated $54million (EUR55.32m) a year endorsement earnings.

Says a spokesman for the magazine: "Powerhouse endorsers like Woods can deliver a product message successfully to urban markets while also drawing general audiences because of their extraordinary celebrity.

"It is estimated that, by 2006, the buying power of affluent African Americans will reach $292.4bn (EUR299.5bn), with the entire African American market totalling $682.5bn (EUR699bn) ."
