24dogs is put down

Greyhound betting business 24dogs - owned by Wembley plc - has closed down after it failed to hit profitability.

According to a report in the UK's Daily Express newspaper, 24dogs closure will see 26 jobs lost.

The firm revealed losses earlier this year of £1.3million ($1.99/EUR1.94m) and despite predictions of breaking even by the end of the year, Wembley plc - former owners of Wembley Stadium - have decided to pull the plug.

Wembley plc faced a further blow with news that attendance figures at its six UK dog tracks dropped 24 percent in June - a dip it blames on the FIFA World Cup.
