Grandstand gets revamp

Premier BBC TV sports programme Grandstand is to receive a major facelift with new presenters, a new format and a new half-hour show called G Two.

The new show, which will launch this Sunday at 1pm, will be hosted by John Inverdale and round-up the weekend's sports news in a 'breezy, contemporary' style.

BBC Radio Five Live presenter Adrian Chiles will also join the show for its initial nine-week run.

Granstand's format has changed little in more than 40 years but BBC chiefs see a need to move with the times. The show will encourage interaction with viewers through email and texting.

Lawrence Duffy, Editor of G Two, said: "We wanted to create a programme that is reactive to the news of the weekend and to debate the issues that crop up around the Sunday newspapers.

"We're attempting to offer a programme that you can come to for knowledge of what's going on, presented in bite-size chunks. It will inform you for the water cooler chat on Monday morning."

BBC insiders say the show is also eager to introduce coverage of extreme sports, with watersports one particular target.
