Tour success for Eurosport

British Eurosport says it achieved record ratings for its 2002 Tour de France coverage despite sharing the rights with the free-to-air commercial ITV network.

Total audiences for the three-week event were up 31 percent on last year's figures.

Average live audiences were up 13 percent with the channel's peak audience reaching 171,000 on July 28 as Lance Armstrong made his way along the Champs ElysC)es to claim his fourth consecutive win.

Arjan Hoekstra, deputy managing director of British Eurosport said: "These impressive figures serve to highlight the loyal fan base British Eurosport continues to attract, securing the channel's growth year on year."
