FIFA president Sepp Blatter has warned that the Confederations Cup may not take place in 2007.
UEFA has already said it would pull out of the biennial tournament which sees all of the champions of each soccer confederation competiting against each other.
"I can give no guarantee whether there will be a Confederations Cup in 2007 or not," Blatter said.
No venue has yet been chosen for the 2003 competition but the 2005 event will be staged in Germany, just one year before it hosts the World Cup.
Australia have indicated that they would like to host the 2007 event if it takes place.
