Sydney and Melbourne have joined forces to bid for the FIFA World Cup in 2014 in an attempt to bring the competition to Oceania for the first time in the tournament's history.
"The World Cup is the world's biggest single sporting event and as such any bid must have the support of both state and federal governments," said Steve Bracks, the Victorian state premier.
