ESS strengthens cricket line-up

Pan-regional Asian pay-TV network ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has tied up exclusive broadcast deals with five international cricket boards.

The renewal deals, which have been negotiated with marketing agency Octagon CSI, sees ESS acquire the exclusive coverage of all international cricket, one day and Test matches, from Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and England.
The five-year agreements run from 2003 through to 2008 and now means that ESS holds the rights to eight out of the ten Test-playing nations.
The length of the deals will see ESS broadcast 119 Tests and 210 one-day internationals bringing more than 1100 days of cricket to the satellite platform's viewers around Asia.
Rik Dovey, managing director of ESS, comments: "ESPN Star Sports has held an unparalleled leadership in sports broadcasting across Asia and India over the past six years. The acquisition of this Multi Cricket Board Deal demonstrates the continued long term commitment of the shareholders to ESPN Star Sports."
ESS is a 50/50 joint venture between News Corporation's Star Sports network and US pay-TV broadcaster ESPN.
