Shell signs Games deal

Shell Hellas - the Greek operation of the oil giant - has signed a major EUR5.5m ($5.56m) deal to become a local sponsor of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

After more than 14 months negotiations, the deal was signed between Shell Hellas chiefs and the local organising committe - ATHOC.

Shell Hellas will become the official provider of oil products, a deal which will see the installation of a number of petrol stations to specifically service vehicles used during the Games.

It builds on a long local association with the Olympic Games, most recently as an official supplier at the Sydney 2000 Games.

The deal was concluded for EUR5.56m ($5.56m).
